Terms of Service

About this translation. This English text is provided for convenience only. The Korean version is the legally binding one; if the two differ, the Korean text governs.

Voice Factory TTS ("the Service") is a free speech-synthesis tool that anyone can use without an account. By using the Service you are taken to have agreed to these Terms. Please read them once before you start.

The short version
① It is free, and it may change or stop without notice.
② What you submit, and what you do with the audio, is your responsibility. Do not submit anyone else's writing without the rights holder's permission.
③ Files disappear after 24 hours. Download anything you need to keep.
④ Impersonation, phone scams, hateful and unlawful uses are forbidden, and offenders are blocked.

Article 1 (Purpose)

These Terms set out the conditions and procedures for using the text-to-speech functions the Service provides, and the rights, duties and responsibilities of users and of the operator.

Article 2 (Effect and amendment)

  1. These Terms take effect when posted on the Service.
  2. The operator may amend these Terms so far as this does not breach applicable law; an amended version applies from the time it is posted on this page.
  3. Material changes unfavourable to users are announced on the Service from seven days before they take effect. If you do not accept a change, you may simply stop using the Service.

Article 3 (What the Service provides)

  1. The Service turns text you enter into audio files, and also provides subtitle (SRT) generation, background-music mixing and script mode.
  2. The Service is provided free of charge and requires neither registration nor personal information.
  3. Advertising may be displayed to cover the cost of running the Service.
  4. The operator may change the Service's content, features and usage limits without notice, or suspend the Service in whole or in part. As the Service is free, the operator is not liable for loss arising from this except where the operator acted intentionally or with gross negligence.

Article 4 (Usage limits)

So that everyone can use the Service evenly, limits apply to the characters per conversion, the daily allowance and the number of requests within a given period. The exact figures may be adjusted according to operating conditions and are shown on the Service. Attempting to circumvent these limits with automated software is prohibited.

Article 5 (Prohibited conduct)

Users must not use the Service to do any of the following.

  1. Impersonate a real person or organisation, or deceive others — phone scams and the like.
  2. Produce audio that defames or threatens a person, or that promotes hatred or discrimination.
  3. Submit, without the rights holder's permission, text that infringes another person's copyright, likeness rights or publicity rights, turn it into audio, and publish or distribute it.
  4. Produce content prohibited by law, including obscene material, sexual content involving children or adolescents, and content inciting violence or terrorism.
  5. Use the Service for spam, bulk advertising or the distribution of malware.
  6. Send bulk automated requests, or circumvent the usage limits, so as to interfere with other users.
  7. Copy or modify the Service's functions in order to relay or resell the speech-synthesis capability itself to third parties.
  8. Act otherwise contrary to law or public order and morals.

Article 6 (Responsibility for the text you submit)

  1. Users must hold the lawful right to use any text they submit to the Service.
  2. Legal responsibility for infringement of third-party rights — copyright, defamation, privacy and the like — and for breaches of law arising from the content submitted or from use of the audio made from it, rests entirely with the user who submitted that text.
  3. The operator does not review or monitor submitted text in advance and gives no warranty as to its lawfulness or accuracy.
  4. If a third party raises a claim against the operator, or the operator suffers loss (including litigation and legal fees), because of a user's breach of paragraphs 1 or 2, that user shall indemnify the operator at their own cost and compensate the operator for the loss incurred.

Article 7 (Using the audio you make)

  1. Users are free to use the audio files they make; the operator asserts no separate rights over them.
  2. However, because speech synthesis is performed by outside services, whether and how far the audio may be used commercially is governed by those providers' policies. The operator does not warrant this, and you should check the provider's policy yourself before any commercial use.
  3. Users must hold the right to use any background-music file they upload.

Article 8 (Outside speech-synthesis services)

  1. To synthesise speech, the Service sends your text to outside speech servers (Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, and Microsoft edge-tts when that is unavailable). See the Privacy policy for detail.
  2. The Service is independent and has no partnership, sponsorship or endorsement from Google or Microsoft. Those names appear only to state which technology is used; each trademark belongs to its owner.
  3. An outage, policy change or discontinuation at an outside service may prevent the Service from being provided in whole or in part, and the operator is not liable for this.

Article 9 (Restricting use)

  1. Where a user breaches Article 4 or Article 5, or is suspected of doing so, the operator may restrict that user's use of the Service or block their access without prior notice.
  2. On receiving a rights-infringement report from a third party, the operator may review the request and take the steps required. Send reports to hipal@naver.com.
  3. The operator may provide records it holds in response to a lawful request from an investigative authority under applicable law.

Article 10 (Storage and deletion of files)

  1. Audio and subtitle files you make, and background-music files you upload, are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
  2. The Service is not a file store and provides no backup. You must download anything you need, and the operator is not liable for deleted or lost files.

Article 11 (Limitation of liability)

  1. The operator is not liable where the Service cannot be provided because of natural disaster, power failure, communications failure, an outage at an outside service, or any other cause beyond the operator's reasonable control.
  2. The operator is not liable for interruptions to use caused by the user's own fault.
  3. The operator does not warrant the accuracy, suitability or fitness for a particular purpose of anything produced through the Service. Synthetic speech may differ from what you expect in pronunciation and intonation.
  4. As the Service is free, the operator is not liable for loss suffered by users in connection with its use except where the operator acted intentionally or with gross negligence. This clause applies to the extent permitted by applicable law and does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Article 12 (Governing law and disputes)

  1. These Terms and the use of the Service are governed by the law of the Republic of Korea.
  2. Where a dispute arises, the operator and the user shall negotiate in good faith towards an amicable resolution; failing that, either may bring proceedings in the court having jurisdiction under the Civil Procedure Act.

Article 13 (Contact)

Send enquiries and reports about the Service to hipal@naver.com.
